From "Contact Lens Girl" to Starship's Ace
Long before her official debut, An Yujin was already a familiar face to the Korean public. While still a trainee at Starship Entertainment, she was selected as the model for Acuvue Vita contact lenses, a high-profile commercial gig typically reserved for established actresses. The campaign, which featured her playing a confident college student (despite being a middle schooler at the time), earned her the moniker "Contact Lens Girl" across online communities.
Her path to Starship was remarkably digital for the era. Unlike many peers who were street-cast, Yujin sent an email application to the agency, attaching a video of herself singing. She passed the subsequent auditions effortlessly. By 2017, the agency had begun soft-launching her through appearances in major music videos, including Soyou and Baekhyun's duet "Rain" and Mad Clown's "Thirst." This pre-debut visibility positioned her as an early favorite when she joined Mnet's survival show Produce 48 in 2018, where she ultimately ranked 5th, securing her place in the project group IZ*ONE.
